3 Technology Roles In Demand Today

As the workplace is evolving, so are roles in technology. With many organizations planning for hybrid remote work to be their norm, it’s crucial for companies to ensure their infrastructure allows them to adequately adapt to this new way of working. As a result, jobs in technology are taking the front seat as organizations make security a priority. Not only are jobs in tech resuming to pre-pandemic levels to account for those now working both in and out of the office, but jobs in cybersecurity are also in high demand as companies try to combat the increase in cyberattacks that have resulted from the pandemic.

“Cybersecurity was always something that has been in demand prior to the pandemic,” says John Carey, a Senior Director at ES Technology, a division of The Execu|Search Group. “However, with cybercriminals using previously unseen methods at a higher rate, its importance has been expedited as businesses work to protect themselves.”

If you’re looking to make a technology career move, there are many opportunities for you as businesses work to adapt and prepare themselves for the future of work. Check out the following technology roles in demand today:

  • Cybersecurity engineers: According to Deloitte, the average cost of a data breach resulting from remote work can be as much as $137,000. As a result, companies are increasing their guard. To protect themselves against cyberattacks, organizations have a higher demand for cybersecurity engineers to help identify risks within their infrastructure and implement secure systems where they are needed. Cybersecurity engineers with Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) qualifications are a plus. In the event of a cyberattack, which has become more likely due to flexible work, organizations need to test how their systems would perform. To do this, they require engineers who can think like cybercriminals and test systems against vulnerabilities that may not be easily spotted.
  • Project managers (cybersecurity): As cybersecurity priorities become even more crucial for organizations, we are seeing an increased demand for people to manage these complex types of projects. “Whether it’s implementing new cybersecurity training for end users or implementing new firewalls and security applications into the existing infrastructure—people in these roles are essential for organizations to see these types of projects through,” says John.
  • Network and systems security engineers: With businesses preparing to return to the office on at least a part-time schedule, companies need to ensure seamless and secure access to company information from anywhere. Because of this, we are seeing an increased demand for professionals with experience in network monitoring and security. To account for this, these types of technology roles that were previously put on hold because of the pandemic are being brought back—and at a potentially higher demand.
