Working with a Recruiter at The Execu|Search Group

Now that fall is in full swing, we are headed into an extremely busy time in the recruiting industry.  Going into this push to get hiring done before the end of the year, it is important to keep in mind how recruiters can work for you. While most recruiting firms do the majority of their work with candidates over the phone and by email, an in person meeting is truly the best way to go. In fact, what differentiates The Execu|Search Group is that we do our best to meet all of our candidates in person. When setting up meetings with candidates I am often asked why coming in to meet with our recruiters is necessary.  Although it is possible to interview on the phone, as many of our competitors do, our experience has shown that an in-person meeting is always beneficial to the job search process.

Here are 5 ways meeting with your recruiter can do wonders for your job search:

1. An in-person meeting is a great way for your recruiter to get to know you on a more personal level.  It is a time when you can speak uninterrupted and confidentially with your recruiter about what’s really important to you in a new position. The job search process is a difficult one, so it is important that your recruiter knows you and your background well enough to represent you and look out for your best interests.

2. As recruiters, we are here to help you get the job you want!  The right “fit” is about more than just looking at the clients’ job descriptions and candidates’ resume or skills set.  There are many factors that come into play that are not obvious from looking at peoples’ resumes. At our firm, we have long standing relationships with local clients who expect us to know their work environment and how peoples’ personalities will mesh with their team.

3.Taking 30-45 minutes to meet with your recruiter will save you time in the long run because you will have less back and forth phone calls with questions.   In addition, we work around candidates’ schedules and do our best to schedule meetings at convenient times (usually before or after work hours).

4. From a personal/recruiter’s perspective, when people come in to meet with me I know they are serious about their job search and this makes me want to work even harder on their behalf to find them the right position. Since we’ve connected on a personal level, I always remember the people I meet better than the people that I’ve only spoken to over the phone.

5. Even long after our meeting is over, I keep people in mind as new roles come in and send candidates over to companies where I think their personalities and skill set would be a good fit.

As a recruiter, I do everything in my power to help my candidates get a job.  Meeting a recruiter is the best way to get the job search process started (even if it is before you want to actively start searching).  I think most candidates find it comforting to meet the voice behind the phone and the person who is representing them!  Take control of your job search today and go out and meet your recruiter!
