Staying organized throughout your job search is imperative in order to find a new position, especially if some of your search will be conducted online.

Keep a running list of all the jobs and companies you have submitted your resume to. Companies keep electronic databases of submissions to their online postings, so they will know if you are submitting your resume over and over again for the same position. It won’t necessarily help you get the job and may, in fact, hurt your chances.

Keeping a list will help you avoid any duplication and also will give you a list of companies to follow-up with.  If you are working with a recruiter, it is important that you tell them where your resume has already been submitted.  It reflects poorly on both of you if a recruiter ends up sending your resume to a company who already has it on file.  It can appear as though you are disorganized, and that is the last thing you want when it comes to a potential employer.
