In May, we launched a “Choose Our Charity Contest,” allowing our Facebook followers to help choose which charity we raise money for in the month of July. By random selection, Karri B. of Long Island was chosen as the winner of the “Choose our Charity” Contest! She submitted The INN as her charity of choice, so this month we will be fund raising and collecting goods for The INN- which serves the Hungry and Homeless on Long Island.
The INN (Interfaith Nutrition Network) addresses the issues of hunger and homelessness on Long Island by providing food, shelter, long-term housing and supportive services in a dignified manner for all who seek their help. It is a volunteer-based organization with a dedicated staff that is committed to educate the public about these basic issues. Last year, The INN fed over 350,000 hungry Long Islanders through its network of 19 soup kitchens. It also provided 347,505 nights of shelter to the guests in their three emergency shelters. Furthermore their Long Term Housing Program works with 25 previously homeless families and Veterans in a program to address the core issues of homelessness and to assist both children and adults with their education, employment and financial services.

Financial donations as well as MetroCards (for job opportunities and medical appointments), food, clothing, toiletries, towels sheets or just about anything you touch over the course of the day helps this organization carry out their mission. These items are passed along to The INN’s guests with no questions asked to help them on their way toward economic independence.” – Karri B.
