9 Songs To Get You Through Your Next Job Search

Catherine

There are two types of people when it comes to getting work done: people who need complete silence, and people who need some kind of noise in order to stay focused.

Regardless of where you fall within these two groups, there’s no denying that music can ultimately be a great  tool to get you motivated, especially during a job search. Whether or not you listen as you go along or you take a breather by blasting some of the most cathartic music you can find, here are several songs that can take you through the job search process from start to finish:

Ready To Start – Arcade Fire

Alright, we’re at the beginning of the search so let’s start off with something that will definitely get you into the right mindset. With this song, you’ll be able to focus solely on fine-tuning your resume and personalizing your cover letter for each position you’re applying to.

Hello – Lionel Richie

Are you the candidate the company you’re applying to is looking for? You know why you are the right person for the job in countless ways, but the hiring manager won’t know that until you corral all of the required application materials and send them over.

Don’t You (Forget About Me) – Simple Minds

Your materials have been submitted to the job, and now it’s time for you to wait. Maybe you hear back within 24 hours, or maybe you’re still waiting after a week. Regardless of how long you wait, try not to worry about a potential employer forgetting about you.

Should I Stay Or Should I Go? – The Clash

At some time in your job search, you may find yourself hooked on an opportunity that you’ll slowly start to realize isn’t going to work out in your favor. Do you stick with the job you really want to work out, or do you move onto the next thing?

For what it’s worth, move on. Always move on if there is any doubt that the job will be the right fit for you.

I Will Survive – Gloria Gaynor

Your first job rejection comes in. It’s tough, especially because you had been confident that the opportunity was the perfect fit for you. Remember though, this happens to everyone and is a very natural part of the job searching process.  You’ll survive this, but you have to pick yourself up and push onwards.

Stronger – Kanye West

If you’re still feeling that rejection hangover, you’ll have to dig deep in order to find that extra motivation that will put you back on track.  Remember, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, so get back to your resume and other applications materials and continue to re-tool them in order to land your next interview.

Don’t Stop Me Now – Queen

You’ve got your energy back and now nothing can stop you from strategically searching and applying to several different jobs. You’re ready to put nearly all of your energy and time into finding the perfect job for you, and nothing will keep you from reaching your goal.

Take A Chance On Me – Abba

You’ve landed another job interview and you’re more than ready to go into the hiring manager’s office and leave an amazing impression. You don’t need to say it out loud, but the hiring manager would be foolish to not take a chance on you.

Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours)-Stevie Wonder

You did it! After a tireless search on your end, you have finally found your next career opportunity. Signed, sealed, delivered, the job is yours. Good luck!
